This book contains the extended and revised versions of eight of the ten full papers (out of 58 submissions) presented at the First International Symposium on Business Modeling and Software Design (BMSD 2011), held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The theme of BMSD 2011 was "Business Models and Advanced Software Systems," and the related scientific areas of interest were: business models and requirements, business models and services, business models and software, and information systems architecture.

About the editor

Boris Shishkov holds a MSc in Management Information Systems from Sofia University (Bulgaria) and a PhD in Computer Science from Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands). He has established and currently leads the Interdisciplinary Institute for Collaboration and Research on Enterprise Systems and Technology (IICREST) and is part-time Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management of Delft University of Technology. He has published over 50 scientific and professional articles. His research focuses on design methods and technologies for information systems. His research interests include business modeling, enterprise architectures, service-oriented architectures, model-driven engineering, and business-IT alignment. Boris Shishkov is internationally active on his field of interest. He is chair of the International Symposium on Business Modeling and Software Design (BMSD), and program co-chair of several other prestigious events.
