About this book

Decision Making in Radiation Oncology is a reference book designed to enable radiation oncologists, including those in training, to make diagnostic and treatment decisions effectively and efficiently. The design is based on the belief that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Knowledge is conveyed through an illustrative approach using algorithms, schemas, graphics, and tables. Detailed guidelines are provided for multidisciplinary cancer management and radiation therapy techniques. In addition to the attention-riveting algorithms for diagnosis and treatment, strategies for the management of disease at individual stages are detailed for all the commonly diagnosed malignancies. Clinical trials that have yielded “gold standard” treatment and their results are documented in the schemas. Moreover, radiation techniques, including treatment planning and delivery, are presented in an illustrative way. This groundbreaking publication is an essential tool for physicians in their daily clinical practice.

Reviews

From the book reviews:

“This is part 2 covering cancers of the abdomen, hematopoietic lymph systems, genitourinary system, and the reproductive organs, diseases inc cancer, cysts, and bone tumors are covered in separate chapters. … I highly recommend this book for oncologists, radiation onc personnel, surgeons, and students/fellows.” (Joseph J. Grenier, Amazon.com, September, 2014)

“Deals with tumours of the genito-urinary system … gynaecological cancer, lymphomas, tumours of the central nervous system, skin cancer and soft tissue sarcoma and paediatric tumours. In total there are 22 chapters in this book. It is written essentially in note form with copious use of summary tables. The quality of the illustrations is very good. … This book would be ideal for a trainee who is carrying out revision prior to the final Part II FRCR examination.” (Paul Symonds, RAD Magazine, January, 2012)

“The second volume in review addresses in its VI-XI sections, 23 chapters and 573 pages, Tumors of the genitourinary system, Gynecological cancers, Lymphomas, Tumors of the central nervous system, Skin cancer and soft tissue sarcoma, Pediatric tumors. … Intended for oncologists and radiotherapists, this book will be of relevance in their daily work, due to the extensive information found in it, and will be the basis for fruitful discussion in decision making toward the benefit of their patients.” (Giampiero Beluffi, La Radiologia Medica, Vol. 117, 2012)
