About this book

The Electromagnetic Compatibility has become an increasingly essential factor for placing a product on the global, world wide market.

Fulfilling emission limits and immunity requirements as well as handling apparently complex cases of incompatibility demands a deeper understanding of the physical interrelations and of Maxwell's theory.

Based on the authors’ experiences, the textbook provides some help in solving such interferential cases.

It contains many illustrative examples and more than 80 exercises with solutions.

About the authors

Curriculum Vitae of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karl-Heinz Gonschorek

Karl-Heinz Gonschorek was born in a small village close to Hanover (Northern Germany) in Sept. 1946. In 1975 he received the Dipl.-Ing. (M.S.E.E) in electromagnetics, concentrating on high frequencies, from the University of Hanover. From 1975 to 1980 he was a scientific co-worker at the University of the Armed Forces in Hamburg.

In 1980 he wrote his doctoral thesis (PhD-Thesis) on electromagnetic pulse coupling of arbitrarily located thin electrodes. From 1980 to 1988 he was with the Research and Development Group of Siemens in Erlangen, Germany, specializing in numerical field calculation and problems related to electromagnetic compatibility. In Oct. 1988 he became a professor of electromagnetic influences at the Hamburg-Harburg University of Technology, Germany. Since 1995 he holds the Siemens Foundation Chair on Electromagnetic Compatibility at the Dresden University of Technology, Germany. In April 2000 his collegues electeted him to be the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology for a period of three years. He is author and co-author of more than 130 papers, member of IEEE and VDE, chairman of the bi-annual EMC congresss.

Curriculum Vitae of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Vick

Ralf Vick studied electrical engineering at Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Afterwards he worked on the subject of immunity of microcontrollers to impulsive disturbances and received his Ph.D. degree in 1995. For a period of ten years he had been an EMC consultant in private practice. He has been involved in various projects which include the EMC of the German Frigate F124 and investigation of the radiation of power line communication systems. He was Professor for industrial electronic in Dresden in 2004- 2008. Since 2008 he is head of the EMC chair at the University in Magdeburg, Germany.
