About this book

Digital Radiography has been ? rmly established in diagnostic radiology during the last decade. Because of the special requirements of high contrast and spatial resolution needed for roentgen mammography, it took some more time to develop digital m- mography as a routine radiological tool. Recent technological progress in detector and screen design as well as increased ex- rience with computer applications for image processing have now enabled Digital Mammography to become a mature modality that opens new perspectives for the diag- sis of breast diseases. The editors of this timely new volume Prof. Dr. U. Bick and Dr. F. Diekmann, both well-known international leaders in breast imaging, have for many years been very active in the frontiers of theoretical and translational clinical research, needed to bring digital mammography ? nally into the sphere of daily clinical radiology. I am very much indebted to the editors as well as to the other internationally rec- nized experts in the ? eld for their outstanding state of the art contributions to this v- ume. It is indeed an excellent handbook that covers in depth all aspects of Digital Mammography and thus further enriches our book series Medical Radiology. The highly informative text as well as the numerous well-chosen superb illustrations will enable certi? ed radiologists as well as radiologists in training to deepen their knowledge in modern breast imaging.

Reviews

“This interesting and very readable book is split into four distinct sections covering all aspects of mammography … . This book is a comprehensive and essential guide for any radiographer wishing to perform mammography but will also appeal to any mammographer wishing to update themself on, or embark upon, breast advanced practice. I give this book my wholehearted recommendation and consider it essential for any bookshelf.” (Richard Dobrashian, RAD Magazine, September, 2023)

“The NHS Breast Screening Programme is currently undergoing conversion from analogue films to digital, the timing of this book is particularly apposite for UK readers. … for those techies out there who just feel more comfortable understanding the technology ‘under the bonnet’ or as a source of reference, this book is brilliant. … it would be a useful addition to your breast unit’s reference library … .” (David Green, RAD Magazine, March, 2011)

“The aim of this 209 page/13 chapter book is to introduce all the technical details, opportunities and problems related to the use of digital mammography (DM) to the reader. … The authors, all well known in their field of research and daily work, have produced a book which will be of help to all those who are using or will be using DM in the future, to provide the best diagnostic results in the endless fight against breast cancer.” (Giampiero Beluffi, La Radiologia Medica, Vol. 116, 2011)

“This is a brief but comprehensive overview of how the use of digital technique impacts the performance and interpretation of mammographic images. … The intended audience is radiologists in practice and radiology residents, as well as clinicians including gynecologists, oncologists, and breast surgeons. I would expand the intended audience to include mammography technologists, particularly those in supervisory positions and those tasked with quality assurance. … Overall, this is an excellent book, easy to read, and complete but concise.” (Dana Smetherman, Doody’s Review Service, February, 2012)

“The book provides a comprehensive description of most of the important aspects of digital mammography suitable for radiographers, film readers, radiologists and physicists. It should be a useful starting place for those being introduced to digital mammography systems, as well as a good summary of the current state of knowledge for those already involved in breast imaging.” (Rosemary Toye, RAD Magazine, July, 2012)
