About this book

Detection and characterization of bone tumors with imaging remains a big challenge for every radiologist notwithstanding the impressive progress achieved by the introduction of several new imaging modalities. Moreover, new concepts in surgical and oncological treatment of these lesions require from the radiologist appropriate and focused answers to the specifc questions asked by the referring physicians in order to choose the best therapeutic approach for the in- vidual patient. Tis comprehensive textbook describes in detail the possibilities and limits of all moda- ties, including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and interventional radiological procedures, employed for the modern imaging of tumoral and tumor-like lesions of bone. Teir role in the diagnosis, surgical staging, biopsy and assessment of response to therapy is discussed in detail, covering all tumor subtypes as well as their specifc anatomical location.Well selected and technically imp- cable illustrations strongly enhance the didactic value of this work. I am very much indebted and grateful to the three editors: A. Mark Davies, Murali Sundaram and Steven L. J. James, world authorities in musculoskeletal radiology, for their superb scientifc achievement in preparing and editing this wonderful volume as well as for their individual ch- ters. I would also like to thank the large international group of collaborating authors, who are also widely acknowledged for their specifc expertise in the area of bone tumors, for their outstanding contributions.

Reviews

From the reviews:

“The book starts with an introductory chapter on bone tumour epidemiology, classification and pathology … . The editors and their international team of experts in the field have produced an important and impressive book giving the radiologist (expert or in training) as well orthopaedic surgeons and oncologists a reference text to be used in daily practice in order to obtain the best results in patient care, a text I am sure will shortly become a must in radiology departments and clinics.” (G. Beluffi, La Radiologia Medica, Vol. 117, 2012)

“The book provides a current detailed review of bone tumors and tumorlike conditions that is targeted at radiologists, as well as orthopedic surgeons, oncologists, and pathologists who are focused on this area. … book succeeds in providing detailed and comprehensive information. The quality of the printing, paper, and tables is superior. … This textbook is recommended for general and musculoskeletal radiologists, as well as other subspecialists who are interested in musculoskeletal oncology.” (Alison R. Spouge, Radiology, Vol. 257 (3), December, 2010)

“This comprehensive textbook is written by a large, international group of 57 collaborating authors ... . This unique book will be of great help to musculoskeletal and general radiologists in their daily clinical practices. Orthopedic surgeons and oncologists also will find the book useful for guiding them in the therapeutic management of their patients. This book should also be placed in medical and radiology libraries as a reference for the evaluation of bone tumors and tumorlike lesions.” (E. Edmund Kim, The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Vol. 51 (8), August, 2010)
