About this book
This book sheds light on one of the biggest development issues of our time: how the rise of entrepreneurship and the associated mindset is likely to unfold in unexpected places and change socio-economic and political fortunes. Focusing on the Balkan Peninsula, the authors explore the early success of young entrepreneurial ecosystems in the region and highlight the dangers of direct comparison with more mature entrepreneurial centres. Offering fresh insights, this brand new book presents an analytical overview of the entrepreneurial domain that enabled Bulgaria to become the start-up capital of the Balkans. With empirical data gathered from over 80 interviews and case studies, the authors address the needs of decision-makers and managers in many countries which are on the path towards nurturing entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Reviews
“This book can have a tremendous impact in two important ways. First, it adds to our understanding of how to encourage risk-taking in places which do not have an entrepreneurial tradition, in comparison to global start-up centres. The book contains important insights- knowledge that would be valuable to many regions around the world that are just now starting to nurture entrepreneurship, and are finding it hard to apply what we know from the Silicon Valley or Tel Aviv. Secondly, a book like this boosts the morale of potential entrepreneurs in the Balkan region where there is a lot of talent and a lot of business opportunities, which, if explored, can contribute to a life-changing transformation for individuals and societies, in addition to fuelling economic growth.” (Ravi Gupta, CEO, Tambourine Innovation Ventures, USA, and Senior Advisor to the World Bank on Innovation and Entrepreneurship)
“This book is an important message to the community – including young students, budding and existing entrepreneurs, employees looking for the catalyst to develop their own business, existing corporations, and governmental agencies – in providing insights, motivation, and an overall understanding of the benefits that fostering entrepreneurship brings to said community. Entrepreneurship, and the entrepreneurial spirit itself, is a seminal pillar in the development of societies and the economy and progress that forms the foundation of societal growth and development. This book provides the first look into how entrepreneurship, and the development of the ecosystem around entrepreneurship, has - and *will* - impact our lives, businesses, and communities. The contribution of our educators and accelerators has been seminal, and the authors of this book are in the perfect position to illustrate, educate, and motivate the budding ecosystem, and its importance.” (Steve Keil, Chief Executive, MammothDB, Bulgaria)
