    About the editors

    Dr. Sanja Bauk is a professor at Durban University of Technology, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Maritime Studies Department. She obtained her PhD at Faculty of Traffic and Transportation Engineering, University of Belgrade (Serbia) in 2005. In 2013 she completed the post-doctoral studies in the field of didactic informatics at Academy for New Media in Knowledge Transfer, Karl Franzes University of Graz (Austria). In 2017 she completed another post-doctoral studies in the field of wireless sensors’ network optimization at Institute for Theoretical Information Technology, RWTH-Aachen University (Germany). In 2019 he received the award “Researcher of the year at Maritime Studies” at Durban University of Technology (South Africa). She is the author of three scientific monographs and several university textbooks. As an author and co-author, she published a significant number of papers in scientific journals indexed in reference databases (more than 50), and in other international scientific journals (more than 100).

    Prof. Dimov Stojce Ilcev is currently a leader at Space Science Centre (SSC) of the Durban University of Technology (DUT) for research and postgraduate studies in Space Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS). He received two BEng degrees in Maritime Radio Engineering and Nautical Science from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at Kotor of Montenegro University (former Yugoslavia) in 1971 and 1979, respectively. Prof. Ilčev also received BSc degree in Maritime Electronics and Communications from the Faculty of Maritime and Transportation Studies of Rijeka University at Rijeka, Croatia, and received an MSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Department of Macedonian University at Skopie (both former Yugoslavia), in 1986 and 1994, respectively. He also got PhD degree from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Department, of Belgrade University, Serbia (former Yugoslavia), The South African Qualification Authorities (SAQA) provided certificate of evaluation and awarded to him both Master in Engineering and Doctor of Science degrees.

    As an expert in Radio and Satellite CNS, he is the inventor of several solutions and author of 6 books published by Springer and 2 books published by AIAA. He published more than 150 research papers in mobile Radio and Satellite CNS, DVB-RCS, Satellite Asset Tracking (SAT), Stratospheric Platform Systems (SCP) for maritime, land (roads and railways) and aeronautical applications. He has a very important project known as “African Satellite Augmentation System (ASAS)” for entire Africa and the Middle East, for enhanced traffic control and management including improved safety and security at sea, on land and in the air.
