About this book

Biopharmaceutical Drug Design and Development, Second Edition, furthers the widely successful first edition, published in 1999. This new, expanded edition investigates the dozens of new biopharmaceutical drugs that have become available since that time. Among the drugs discussed are ones in the categories of monoclonal antibodies for in-vivo use, cytokines, growth factors, enzymes, immunomodulators, thrombolytics, and immonotherapies including vaccines. Additionally, the volume examines new and emerging technologies, such as bioinformatics, DNA microarrays, transgenics, therapeutic gene delivery, stem cells, nucleic acid-based therapeutics, and macromolecular drug delivery. Authors also study pharmacogenetics in the clinic and changes in biologic drug approval at the FDA. Biopharmaceutical Drug Design and Development, Second Edition, is a worthy sequel to a discussion on the dynamic, exciting field of biotechnology.

Reviews

From the reviews of the second edition:

"The book comprises 16 chapters written by 24 authors from academic and industrial laboratories in the U.S. The book is suitable for a wide audience of industrial and academic pharmaceutical scientists interested in a broad introduction to biopharmaceutical technology within the context of drug design and development. … Overall, the book is well written with an excellent nine-page index. The chapters are generally well illustrated. … it would be a valuable addition to industrial and academic libraries." (Aliasger K. Salem, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Vol. 51 (19), 2008)

"This book is an update of the first edition of Biopharmaceutical Drug Development … . this book is dedicated to quite detailed discussion of the impact the various ‘omic’ technologies have had on drug discovery and design. … Overall, this is quite a useful reference book for toxicologists working in the biopharmaceutical sector, particularly if they are still getting to grips with the various ‘omics’ technologies and areas such stem cell therapy and gene silencing." (Peter Ryle, British Toxicological Society Newsletter, June-August, 2009)
