Derk Haank brings a wealth of educational and professional experience to Springer as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

After receiving a master’s degree in economics and business administration from the Free University of Amsterdam, Haank remained at the university initially as a scientific assistant and later as head of the research institute of the economics faculty. Subsequently, Haank moved on to a number of high-profile positions with Elsevier, including CEO of Misset, CEO of Elsevier Science and a member of the executive board for Reed Elsevier. In 2004 Haank joined Springer as CEO.

Derk Haank is non-executive director (Raad van Commissarissen) of Koninklijke KPN NV and Vattenfall Nuon NV and on the supervisory board (Raad van Toezicht) of TROS.
