  • About this series

The need for alternative sources of energy has never been greater. Fossil fuels are finite and their supply often threatened by international conflict. Harnessing natural and renewable sources of energy and reducing energy consumption therefore is desirable. Evidence of climate change is more frequently being reported, while the combustion of fossil fuels continues to release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, enhancing the "greenhouse effect". Climate change has become a global issue and will affect society in the 21st century in a multitude of ways, yet the demand for energy is ever increasing.

The RSC Energy Book Series will discuss the alternatives to fossil fuels as a source of energy and examine the reduction of carbon emissions from existing fossil fuel supplies. Any long-term energy solution should involve a diverse mix of energy systems and individual titles will focus on the various forms of renewable energy available. As well as delivering new solutions for energy generation, the chemical sciences can provide energy-efficient technologies to reduce demand; other titles in the series will present these matters.

The primary readership of the series will be academics and industrial researchers. Individual books within the series will be suitable for adoption within university courses.
