Prof. Zhiyong Zheng received the Ph.D. degree in mathematics from Shandong University, Jinan, China, in 1991. He was with Shandong University, Tsinghua University, and Beihang University. He was a senior visiting scholar at Princeton University in 1995. He is now a Professor and Dean of School of Mathematics, Renmin University of China. His research focuses on analytic number theory. He has made major contributions to the geometric theory of exponential sums and character sums, which is highly valued by the international academia. His work has been cited by Prof. Jean Bourgain, a Fields Medal winner, and Prof. Igor Shparlinski, a fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, for over 60 times, which is rarely seen in the field of number theory. Recently, he has made a breakthrough in the geometric theory and analytic method in function fields—He successfully solved the problem of high-dimensional rational approximation by the Haar measure and Haar integral. He has been sponsored by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars for three times.
