About the Editor

Paul Burton is Professor of Urban Management and Planning and Director of the Cities Research Institute (CRI) at Griffith University in South East Queensland, one of the fastest growing metropolitan regions in Australia.  The CRI is a multi-disciplinary centre for research on most aspects of cities and processes of urbanisation.  It combines academic rigour with practical and policy relevance in addressing the increasingly complex and multi-faceted challenges facing cities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Professor Burton’s research interests include the changing nature of the planning profession; the theory and practice of public participation in planning; and multi-level governance in metropolitan regions.  Prior to joining Griffith University in 2007, he was Head of the School for Policy Studies (previously the School for Advanced Urban Studies) at the University of Bristol, UK where he carried out research on housing and living conditions in European cities, the development and implementation of national urban policy and the evolution of political management structures in English cities.
