About the Editor
DAVID RASMUSSENDAVID RASMUSSEN is Professor Emeritus of Political Philosophy at Boston College and founder and editor-in-chief of the journal, Philosophy and Social Criticism (1978-present) and associate editor of the journal J-APA (Journal of the American Philosophical Association,1914-present).
Educated at the University of Chicago, PhD, and the University of Minnesota, BA, he is the author and editor of numerous books including Mythic-Symbolic Language and Philosophical Anthropology, (Martinus Nijhoff, Dordrecht, 1971) Reading Habermas (Blackwell, 0xford, 1990) Handbook of Critical Theory (Sage, London, 1996) Universalism vs. Communitarianism in Ethics (MIT, Cambridge, 1990) and articles.
He continues to serve as a director of the Course on Social Philosophy, which meets yearly in Dubrovnik.
ALESSANDRO FERRARA
ALESSANDRO FERRARA is Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Rome (Tor Vergata), Italy and former President of the Italian Society for Political Philosophy (2005-2010).
Educated at the University of California at Berkeley, as Harkness Fellow, and at the Goethe-Universität of Frankfurt, as Humboldt Fellow under the supervision of Jürgen Habermas, he authored: The Democratic Horizon. Hyperpluralism and the Renewal of Political Liberalism, (New York: Cambridge University Press, 2014); The Force of the Example. Explorations in the Paradigm of Judgment (New York: Columbia University Press, 2008); Justice and Judgment. The Rise and the Prospect of the Judgment Model in Contemporary Political Philosophy (London: Sage, 1999), and several other monographs, articles and contributions to edited volumes in political and legal philosophy.
Since 1992 Professor Ferrara has been a Co-Director of the Yearly Conference on Philosophy and Social Science, founded by Jürgen Habermas in Dubrovnik in 1976 and since 1993 held in Prague under the auspices of the Czech Academy of Science. Former Co-Directors include Jean Cohen, Axel Honneth, Frank Michelman, Seyla Benhabib, Nancy Fraser, Rainer Forst, William Scheuerman, and other distinguished colleagues.
