About the Editor

Amanda W. Harrist, Ph.D., received her doctorate in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee. She is currently a Professor of Human Development and Family Science at Oklahoma State University, where she holds the Bryan B. Close Professorship in Early Childhood Development. Dr. Harrist is Associate Director for Education and Translation at OSU’s Center for Family Resilience and an Administrative Core Director for the NIH-funded Center for Integrative Research on Childhood Adversity. She has published more than 40 articles and chapters and is co-editor of a book published by APA Press entitled, Authoritative Parenting: Synthesizing Nurturance and Discipline for Optimal Child Development. Dr. Harrist’s research is focused on understanding psychosocial risk and protective processes in children’s social contexts, particularly the parent-child relationship and peer relations at school. She is the Principle Investigator for the USDA-funded Families & Schools for Health Project, a longitudinal interdisciplinary study examining psychosocial factors in child obesity among 1,200 rural school children followed across 12 years.

 

Stephan M. Wilson, Ph.D., recently served as interim dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences and previously served as the dean of the College of Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University. He has a doctorate in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Wilson is an NCFR fellow, Fulbright fellow, Regents Professor at Oklahoma State University, and legend recognition of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. He has numerous teaching, research, and community engagement recognitions. Dr Wilson’s areas of expertise include cross-cultural family science and adolescent social competence.
