About this book

Written and edited by leading international authorities in the field, this book provides an in-depth review of knowledge of complications of CSF shunting, with emphasis on prevention, identification, and management. It covers the full range of shunt-related complications and the various associated adverse consequences that remain common despite significant improvements in imaging techniques and therapeutic methods. The chapters are organized into two parts: complications of extrathecal CSF shunt devices and complications of endoscopy. In addition to providing clinicians and investigators with the most pertinent current evidence, the book looks forward to future areas of hydrocephalus research and to innovative therapeutic philosophies. This comprehensive reference book will be an ideal source for neurosurgeons seeking both basic and more sophisticated information and procedures relating to the complications associated with CSF shunting.

Reviews

“This is the most complete and up to date textbook on CNS Shunting available. The bioengineering of shunt devices and the potential complications for the types of each shunt catheter are explored. … The strongest part of the book besides the engineering areas, is the indications and pitfalls of shunts. … I recommend this book to all neurosurgeons.” (Joseph J. Grenier, Amazon.com, August, 2015)

“It provides a comprehensive, international review of the challenging area of complications of CSF shunting in hydrocephalus. … The audience includes pediatric and adult neurosurgeons in training and in practice. … This book is helpful in understanding the issues of CSF shunting and management. It presents both common and uncommon complications and disorders. … It is easy to understand and highlights important points well.” (Ramsis Farid Ghaly, Doody's Book Reviews, July, 2015)

“The book’s 24 chapters are generally well referenced, and the remarkable advances in treatment of hydrocephalus that have been achieved over the past few years are well covered. This volume should be of interest to a large readership including neurosurgeons, residents, neurologists, and pediatricians … . As usual for Springer publications, the quality of printing and the rich iconography with a large number of illustrations both in B/W and color add a further charm to the book.” (Mario Giordano, Child's Nervous System, Vol. 31, 2015)
