Italian Society for the Study of Eating Disorders (SISDCA) (anorexia, bulimia and obesity) partner of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED)

The Italian Society for the Study of Eating Disorders (SISDCA) is the oldest and widest Italian scientific society in this field and most likely the first-born national society for eating disorders in the world. It was founded as an interdisciplinary scientific society on July 19th, 1991. Its members include researchers and specialists from a broad range of fields, including internal medicine, endocrinology, neuropsychiatry, psychology and the food sciences. As a non-profit organization, the SISDCA is dedicated to research in the field of eating disorders and obesity. It promotes both preventive and therapeutic measures, and is also active in training and continuing education.

Italian Society of Obesity (SIO) member of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO)

Established in 2000, the Italian Society of Obesity (SIO) is the leading Italian scientific association in this field for practice-based professionals.
The SIO considers obesity a disease and thus a health, research and societal priority. This scientific society promotes the study of obesity and related disorders, and aims to reduce the burden of unhealthy excess body weight in Italy through the promotion of prevention and management strategies.
The SIO’s main aims are as follows:
1. to promote and support scientific research in the field of obesity and related disorders
2. to raise the awareness of obesity and its complications at the national, political and stakeholder levels
3. to disseminate information on obesity management to general practitioners and to other interested specialists
4. to update both members and stakeholders with the most recent clinical and scientific advancements in the field by organising regional and national meetings
5. to produce and promote clinical management tools to combat the obesity pandemic, such as guidelines, consensus documents and treatment protocols
6. to promote and improve a regional/national network of Obesity Centres of Excellence committed to both clinical and scientific research
7. to implement aggregation among researchers for planning large interventional clinical trials in obesity and obesity-related disorders
SIO membership gives direct access to the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). The EASO is formally connected to the WHO Regional Office for Europe and is an active member of EU Commission initiatives, including the EU Platform on Diet, Physical Activity and Health, and the Joint Programming Initiative on a Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life.
