This book covers the field of keratoprosthesis in detail and focuses specifically on the Boston type 1 keratoprosthesis (KPro), which is the device most widely used today. About the editors

Maria Soledad Cortina, MD, gained her medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine, Argentina, in 2001. She was recognized by the Association of University Professors in Ophthalmology for best research paper during her residency. After completing a fellowship in cornea, external disease and refractive surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago, she became Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology in the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service, Louisiana State University, New Orleans. She is currently Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service and the Artificial Cornea Program at the UIC Eye and Ear Infirmary, Chicago. Her professional memberships include the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Keratoprosthesis Study Group. Dr. Cortina has been included in the Best Doctors in America since 2010. She is the author of a number of articles in peer-reviewed journals and book chapters.

Jose de la Cruz, MD, MSc, graduated from the Ponce School of Medicine and in 2005 won the William H. and Judith Turner Excellence in Residency Award at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. A year later, Dr. de la Cruz established the Artificial Cornea Program at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, now recognized as one of the top KPro services in the nation. He is currently Assistant Professor and Director of the Millennium Park Eye Center and Attending Surgeon, Artificial Cornea Program, University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, Chicago. He has been included among the Best Doctors in America each year since 2009. He has research experience in various aspects of keratoprosthesis and has written many journal articles and book chapters on this and other topics.
