The Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology and Springer will collaborate to publish the society's official journal Applied Entomology and Zoology as of January 2011.
Founded in 1966, Applied Entomology and Zoology is a leading scientific journal covering applied entomology, applied zoology, agricultural chemicals and pest control. Published quarterly, the journal examines insect pests, animal pests, natural enemies, beneficial insects, beneficial animals and more. The editor-in-chief is Dr. Eizi Yano of Kinki University in Nara City, Japan.
Dr. Yano said, “Integrated pest management and conservation of biodiversity, two important aspects in integrated crop management, are increasingly gaining in importance. Applied Entomology and Zoology covers both scientific fields and is therefore essential to the international community. Springer’s expertise in publishing will definitely help to further enhance the journal’s profile and availability.”
Peter Butler, Editorial Director for Life Sciences at Springer, said, “We are honored that the Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology has decided to publish their journal with Springer. Applied Entomology and Zoology is an excellent addition to our program and we look forward to working closely with the society to further develop the journal and to increase its visibility through the global reach of SpringerLink.”
Springer will publish Applied Entomology and Zoology in both print and electronic formats, starting with Volume 46, Issue 1. Articles will be published in Online First™ in full text via www.springerlink.com, Springer’s online information platform. This ensures immediate distribution of the electronic version of the article before it appears in print.
The Japanese Society of Applied Entomology and Zoology was founded in 1957 as a result of a merger between the Japanese Society for Applied Zoology and the Nippon Society of Applied Entomology. The society’s members include approximately 2,000 researchers who study insects, mites, spiders, nematodes, birds and other animals. These researchers are engaged in both basic and applied research activities for plant and animal protection, especially pest control, environmental preservation, utilization of insects and other related areas.
Springer is a leading global scientific publisher of books and journals, delivering quality content through innovative information products and services. It publishes close to 500 academic and professional society journals. Springer is part of the publishing group Springer Science+Business Media. In the science, technology and medicine (STM) sector, the group publishes around 2,000 journals and more than 6,500 new books a year, as well as the largest STM eBook Collection worldwide. Springer has operations in about 20 countries in Europe, the USA, and Asia, and more than 5,000 employees.
