Brain Structure and Function - Call for Papers: Special Issue on "Language System(s)"

Guest Editors: Peter Hagoort & Stephanie Forkel

The sophistication of understanding brain systems like visual and auditory has greatly advanced thanks to comparative mapping of brain circuits. For the neurobiology of language, however, such methods cannot be applied, and circuitries underlying language system(s) have not been mapped in comparable detail. Recent methodological advances and the availability of large datasets from healthy participants and patients offer the possibility of mapping language in the brain in unprecedented detail. In this special issue entitled "Language System(s)", we provide an avenue for capitalising on these technological advancements and novel conceptual directions to reflect on the relationship between brain structure and language function / linguistic processes.

Contributed articles can be in the form of full-length research papers, short reports, full-length reviews, or mini-reviews. Manuscripts with a cognitive, computational, or psychological focus are welcome as long as they connect with the structure or function of language system(s). Manuscripts involving clinical conditions are also welcome if they relate specifically to understanding the structure or function of language system(s).

Full articles will be due by August 30, 2023 and should be submitted via the BSAF Editorial System: https://submission.nature.com/new-submission/429/3 (this opens in a new tab)
