Background

Frontiers of Engineering Management is an international research journal supervised by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, administered jointly by Chinese Academy of Engineering, Higher Education Press, Tsinghua University, and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and co-published by Higher Education Press and Springer in English in both print and online versions quarterly. Frontiers of Engineering Management provides a high-quality international platform for academic researchers, industry professionals and other constituent communities in the broad field of engineering management to impart and share the latest research results and knowledge in the form of research articles, reviews, comments and super engineering.

Aims and Scope

In recent years, rapid urbanization, population growth, and increasing concerns about climate change have led to a growing demand for innovative and sustainable transportation solutions. As we strive to meet these challenges, the development of next-generation smart transportation systems has emerged as a critical focus for researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers worldwide. These advanced systems have the potential to revolutionize the way we move people and goods, integrating cutting-edge technologies or concepts such as artificial intelligence, electrification, connected and automated driving, and advanced aerial mobility. This special issue aims to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, research findings, and best practices, fostering a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by this paradigm shift in transportation. By exploring the diverse aspects of carbon neutrality, connectivity, intelligence, equity, and verticalization, we hope to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue and shed a light on the development of sustainable, efficient, and equitable transportation solutions for the future.

Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to;

Transportation management strategies and technologies in the era of connected and automated transportation Planning and operations management for deploying electric vehicles and intelligently integrating the transportation and power grid networks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions Integration of urban air mobility systems into existing transportation networks Adoption of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics in optimizing transportation efficiency, safety, and sustainability Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable transportation service options for all, with a focus on addressing the needs of underserved communities and individuals with disabilities
