Journal of Hydrodynamics - Call for Papers

Special Issue on Biological and Bio-Inspired Fluid Mechanics

Journal Hydrodynamics is pleased to announce a special issue dedicated to the topic of Biological and Bio-Inspired Fluid Mechanics. Biology has long been a wellspring of inspiration for scientific and technological advancements in fluid mechanics, vividly displayed by Leonardo Da Vinci's visionary bird-inspired airplane designs in the 15th century. The enchanting marriage of biology and fluid mechanics continues to flourish, offering profound insights into both fields. It unlocks the secrets of fluid dynamics while unraveling the mysteries of biological systems. This convergence has birthed a broad range of scientific interests, ranging from microswimmers emulating the graceful motions of bacteria to locomoting robots echoing the artistry of animals and from superhydrophobic surfaces paying homage to the leaves of plants to myriad other innovations.

Scope

This special issue focuses on studying fluid mechanics inspired by biological systems and their applications in solving real-world problems. We welcome contributions from scientists and engineers across diverse fluid mechanics and biology fields. Submissions should explore bio-inspired fluid mechanics in various contexts, including locomotion, fluid-organism interactions, and internal circulatory systems.

Topics of Interest

  • Biomimetic kinematics in fluids
  • Fluid flow in biological systems
  • Bio-inspired propulsion and locomotion
  • Flow sensing and control inspired by nature
  • Fluid-structure/fluid-structure-sound interactions in biological contexts
  • Artificial intelligence for bio-inspired fluid mechanics
  • Integrated research on neural, muscular, and fluid coupling.
  • Biomimetic design in fluid dynamics
  • Novel experimental techniques for biological and bio-inspired fluid mechanics

Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts should be submitted through the Journal of Hydrodynamics online submission system (https://link.springer.com/journal/42241). Please select "Invited Articles" as the article type during the submission process, and in the cover letter, include "Special Issue on Biological and Bio-Inspired Fluid Mechanics."
