Scope and call for manuscripts:
Overweight and obesity are defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as abnormal or excessive body fat storage that may impair health. According to WHO data, more than half of the world population is overweight or obese and the prevalence increases across the world every year, irrespective of gender and across most age-groups.

Obesity is associated with both short- and long-term health effects for women as well as for their offspring. Obesity prevalence is rising amongst women of reproductive age and pregnant women and is becoming a serious public health issue, as this condition are associated with a decrease in fertility and an increase in pregnancy complications, as well as in long-term maternal effects and health issues in the offspring.

The increasing number of obese patients in gynecology and obstetrics create new challenges. Complications should be anticipated in advance and the management should be adapted according to the risk profile of these women.

This series of papers aims to reflect the current state of obesity in women’s health and should offer practical solutions.
