Phytoparasitica - Celebrating 50 Years of Publication: Phytoparasitica's Journey

We are delighted to announce a significant milestone in the history of our journal, Phytoparasitica. This year marks the 50th anniversary of its publication, a testament to our enduring commitment to advancing knowledge in the field of Plant Protection, Weed Science, and the broader scientific community. 

Since its inception in 1973, Phytoparasitica has served as a platform for researchers, scientists, and academicians to present their research, discoveries, and perspectives. Through the collaborative efforts of our authors, reviewers, and editorial team, we have fostered an environment of intellectual exchange and scientific progress.

Here are some significant highlights:

  • A total of 2,473 articles have been published to date.
  • The journal transitioned to an electronic format in 1997, and since then, it has been available in both print and electronic versions.
  • The first impact factor (IF) was assigned to the journal in 1997.
  • Springer began publishing Phytoparasitica in 2009, and since then, the IF has increased from 0.527 to 1.809.
  • From 2009 to the present, 1.733 reviewers have submitted their assessments, resulting in a total of 5.035 reports.
  • The most cited article of all time is "A selective medium for improving quantitative isolation of Trichoderma spp. from soil," published in 1981 by Elad, Y.; Chet, I.; Henis, Y., which has received 222 citations.
  • The first article ever published was "Effect of temperature on peroxidase activity, isozyme patterns, and concentration of threadlike particles in tristeza-infected citrus plants," authored by Moore, I. and Navon, A., in June 1973.
  • The most downloaded article over time is "DNA sequence-based identification of Fusarium: Current status and future directions," authored by O'Donnell, Kerry; Ward, Todd J.; Robert, Vincent A. R. G.; Crous, Pedro W.; Geiser, David M.; Kang, Seogchan in 2015. This article has accumulated 12,246 downloads and 103 citations.
  • The editorial team of Phytoparasitica has consistently demonstrated excellence and dedication in ensuring the quality and integrity of published articles. The meticulous peer-review process upholds the journal's high standards, guaranteeing the inclusion of impactful and rigorous research in our publication.

As we commemorate this momentous occasion, we would like to express our gratitude to all the authors, reviewers, and editorial board members who have contributed to the success of Phytoparasitica.
