Description
The aim is to collect papers regarding the topic of sustainability in the field of sport engineering and, in particular, in the field of sport equipment focusing on, repair, reuse, remanufacturing and recycling of end-of-life products, environmental consideration related to design and development of sports gear, lifecycle thinking and management,  sustainable production processes and technologies, and on the use of renewable resources e.g. the use of bio-based materials, low carbon materials, etc., and environmental awareness of players (users) of sports gear.

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors at: https://link.springer.com/journal/12283/submission-guidelines (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “TC - Environmental Sustainability of Sporting Goods". 

Please indicate your intention to submit a paper to this Topical Collection with an email to the Guest Editors. Please include a tentative title and indicate the type of paper (original research, review, technical note).

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Topical Collection. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Meet the Guest Editors

New Content Item (1)Prof. Martino Colonna is an associate professor of polymer chemistry at the University of Bologna. He is also the founder and director of the Sport Technology Lab that works in the development and testing of sport and safety equipment. Moreover, he is the founder and CEO of RE-SPORT, a start-up company that develops technologies for the recycling of sport equipment. Prof. Colonna is the proud author of 80 peer reviewed papers, 3 books and 37 patents.

New Content Item (1)Dr. Jörg Kaufmann is the Head of Composites of the Department Textile Technologies, Chemnitz University of Technology and Managing Director and founder of Silbaerg GmbH. He is the author of more the 60 papers, 3 book chapters, 24 patents and has received 10 important international and national awards.



New Content Item (1)Prof. Martin Charter is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Design ®, Business School for the Creative Industries, University for the Creative Arts (UCA), in the UK. Professor Charter is the Founding Director of the Centre that was established in 1995. He is also a member of the Senior Management Team, UCA Business School for the Creative Industries. He is a former Visiting Professor in Sustainable Product Design at UCA and presently a Professor of Innovation & Sustainability at UCA. He has 30 years’ experience in business sustainability with particular expertise in sustainable innovation, product sustainability and circular economy and has been an author and editor of many reports and publications including Sustainable Solutions, Greener Marketing I & II, Designing for the Circular Economy and Accelerating Sustainability in Fashion, Clothing and Textiles. Prof. Charter is the founder and organizer of the Sustainable Innovation series of international conferences. He is a regular speaker at conferences worldwide and has participated in a range of advisory groups. He also founded and is the chair of the charity Farnham Repair Café.
