Description
In all winter sports, equipment is essential for athlete performance and safety. Sports Engineering research can therefore have a direct impact on the performance and safety of winter sports athletes. Prior to previous Winter Olympics, the last being Beijing 2022, Sports Engineering has published Topical Collections on winter sports research which have included cutting edge research on a number of key themes.

This call for papers is for the next Topical Collection on Winter Sports Technology IV, which will be published prior to Cortina 2026.  Researchers are invited to submit research articles, technical notes or reviews. All papers must fit the Aims and Scope  (this opens in a new tab)of the journal. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of new technologies, software or measurement devices in winter sports
  • Equipment-player interactions during winter sports
  • Equipment safety
  • Computer aided design and analysis of winter sports equipment
  • Computer vision or machine learning in winter sports

This Topical Collection is in collaboration with the International Society for Snowsports Safety (this opens in a new tab).

Submission guidelines
All papers must be prepared in accordance with the Instructions for Authors at: https://www.springer.com/journal/12283/submission-guidelines (this opens in a new tab). Authors should submit through the online submission site (this opens in a new tab) and select article type “TC - "Winter Sports Research".

Please indicate your intention to submit a paper to this Topical Collection with an email to the Guest Editors. Please include a tentative title and indicate the type of paper (original research, review, technical note).

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one of the topics of the Topical Collection. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis of relevance, significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality of presentation, by at least two independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal that no submission, or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at another journal or conference at any time during the review process. Final decisions on all papers are made by the Editor-in-Chief.

Authors are encouraged to read the recent editorial “How to write a manuscript for Sports Engineering (this opens in a new tab)”.
