Mobile Networks and Applications - Call for Papers: Recent Advance in Information Communications Technologies for Smart Applications (SGIoT 2020)

Overview:

This special issue focuses on discussing the recent advances in employing novel information communications technologies (ICT), including artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of things (IoT), blockchain, cloud/fog/edge computing, and 5G/6G networks to develop smart applications, including smart energy, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart city, smart transportation, smart supply chain and logistics, smart business model and e-commerce, FinTech, and other smart applications. Recent innovative applications are based on the infrastructure of the IoT, which involves millions of interconnected intelligent devices that can communicate with one another, and thereby control the world around us.

The Internet of energy (IoE) and the smart grid can be considered to be an example of the IoT composed of embedded machines, which sense and control the behavior of the energy world, including conventional energy and renewable energy. The Internet of medical things (IoMT) consisting of enormous interconnected medical facilities can immediately monitor patients’ health conditions, adjust patients’ behavior, and simplify the clinical and information processes. It not only promotes the speed and precision of diagnosis and treatment, but also optimizes the communications of doctors and patients inside and outside medical institutes.

Smart manufacturing employs the IoT to connect machines, collect big data, and optimize the production processes, driving the growth of human resources for mechatronics, quality control, and integrated marketing. In a smart city, advance ICTs are applied to every object of the production or daily-life systems in the city, such as electricity system, water system, transportation system, building, oil and gas pipeline, factory, office, and home life.

The IoT gradually changes the business model. With cloud computing and the IoT, human have been used to share information through smartphones and mobile devices. This behavior has affected innovation in business models, to increase the productivity of businesses and decrease their operating costs. Development of AI with IoT (AIoT) has created smarter financial services, and changed the business model of banks, insurance, and securities industries. Recent smart FinTech applications include robo advisor, risk control, security, identification, smart customer services, regtech, and precise marketing.
