Special Call for Papers

Manuscript Submission Deadline: 4th April, 2022

The journal of Research on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology invites manuscripts for a special issue on “Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): A Developmental Psychopathology Perspective” to be edited by Jennifer L. Allen, PhD (University of Bath, United Kingdom), and David J. Hawes (University of Sydney, Australia). We particularly encourage submissions involving a range of cutting-edge methodologies to index ACEs and mental health outcomes; that span multiple levels of analysis (i.e., biological, psychological, social); that utilize experimental and/or longitudinal designs; and that involve novel approaches to bridging and integrating research on ACEs and related fields, including child maltreatment and stressful life events.

The editors invite high quality studies and reviews on relevant topics including (but not limited to):

  • Novel approaches to the conceptualisation and measurement of ACEs based on the principles of developmental psychopathology;
  • The role of the developmental timing of ACEs in risk pathways to child and adolescent psychopathology;
  • The role of biological, cognitive, emotional, and social mechanisms in shaping individual responses to ACEs, including gene-environment interplay.
  • The intergenerational transmission of ACEs and the impact of parental ACEs on children and adolescents;
  • Contextual factors (e.g., family, school and neighbourhood-level factors) and intra-individual factors (e.g., sex, temperament, cognitive ability) that modify the impact of ACEs on child and adolescent outcomes;
  • Models of intervention and prevention, including those focused on psychopathology arising from parent or child ACEs, as well as the prevention of ACEs.

Interested authors should submit manuscripts using standard submission guidelines for RACP: https://www.springer.com/journal/10802/submission-guidelines. All manuscripts should be submitted through Editorial Manager: https://www.editorialmanager.com/jacp/default.aspx. When submitting, authors should indicate that this paper is intended for the special issue on ACEs by choosing this option on the “manuscript type” drop-down menu and noting this in the submitted cover letter. The paper will then be assigned to Drs. Hawes and Allen for handling.
