An International Journal Devoted to Research in the Inheritance of Behavior

Publishing model:

Behavior Genetics - Call for Editor-in-Chief Applications

Application Deadline:  January 15, 2024

Springer, in collaboration with the Behavior Genetics Association (BGA), is seeking applications for a new Editor-in-Chief for Behavior Genetics, for an initial term of three to five years. The term will officially commence January 2025, with transitional work beginning in July 2024. There is an annual stipend associated with this role for the length of the contracted term.

Aims and Scope:
Behavior Genetics - the leading journal concerned with the genetic analysis of behavioral traits - is published in cooperation with the Behavior Genetics Association. This timely journal disseminates the most current original research on the inheritance and evolution of behavioral characteristics in man and other species. Contributions from eminent international researchers focus on both the application of various genetic perspectives to the study of behavioral characteristics and the influence of behavioral differences on the genetic structure of populations.

The Editor in Chief is responsible for:

  • Assessing suitability of submissions
  • Overseeing the peer review process of submissions (finding reviewers, sending invitations to review, assessing reviewer reports). This also includes making decisions about the organization of the editorial board to assist with these tasks.
  • Rendering final decisions on submitted manuscripts
  • Maintain an active, engaged and diverse editorial board
  • Working with publisher to develop the journal as appropriate

Because the journal is the official journal of the Behavior Genetics Association, the Editor-in-Chief candidate should be a member of the Association (or be willing to join the Association), and should be able to report to the Association at its annual meetings.

Springer Nature is committed to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in the research communities we serve. Our goal is to consider for this position a pool of candidates which represent a multitude of perspectives and experiences, and we particularly welcome applications from those who may belong to underrepresented groups.

Please address applications for consideration via email to: Kimberly Poss, Associate Publisher, Social Work, Policy and Health at Springer, kimberly.poss@springer.com (this opens in a new tab)and to Lisabeth Dilalla, BGA Past-President, ldilalla@siu.edu (this opens in a new tab). All applications must include a current CV, and a letter indicating interest, editorial experience/qualifications, and ideas about the development of the journal, as well as a preferred length of initial term.
