New Content Item

The West and Central Africa region is vast and characterized by highly diverse landscapes, peoples, cultures and institutions. Both humid and dryland areas of West and Central Africa are seriously affected by climate change because of the predominance of rainfed agriculture on which all countries of the region depend and upon which they rely to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In humid zones deforestation and forest degradation resulting from extensive farming practices, urbanization and artisanal mining are critical issues, whereas in dryland, declines in agricultural productivity, shortage of NTFPs and fuel wood are major concerns.  As a result of these drivers, the pattern of tree cover is changing, influenced by both planned interventions and other societal processes.

This Special Issue aims at pulling together a synthesis of research for development results about agroforestry across sub-humid and dry West Africa, highlighting recent research on climate adaptation and transdisciplinary scaling that draws connections across disciplines and geographies. A balanced selection of reviews and new research articles based on novel field data are welcomed.

Please note that all submitted manuscripts will follow peer review criteria as per standard submissions to the journal. The deadline for submissions is October 2020 and for consideration for this Special Issue the corresponding author should select the Special Issue during submission.
