Focusing on Technology Research, Innovation, Demonstration, Insights and Policy Issues for Sustainable Technologies

Publishing model:

Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy - Special Issue: Economic Sustainability of Clean Technologies

Every day, a plethora of concepts are submitted to research journals and patent offices all around the world in which authors claim that their technologies are cleaner and sustainable. These concepts usually contain proposals that, in line with the concept of circular economy, prevent pollution, reduce material or energy consumption, recover waste, address issues related to water, soil, air and alternative energy sources etc.
While many of the proposals discussed have the potential for environmental improvement, the vast majority of these concepts cannot be implemented because they are conceptually infeasible due to their complete disregard for economic reality.

The goal of the Special Issue "Economic Sustainability of Clean Technologies" is to remind the community that economic sustainability is a mandatory prerequisite for environmental sustainability. Editors of this special issue will try to point out concepts that are not only environmentally friendly, but also have the potential to be commercialized on an industrial scale. This means that we are calling for manuscripts that are accompanied by analyses on material and energy flows from which a cost breakdown, basic financial analysis and economic considerations can be derived to strengthen the argumentation on sustainability.

The backbone of the manuscripts will consist of presentations from the ICPPCT 2023 (this opens in a new tab) international conference, with additional manuscripts invited from leading experts in the field, and all promising authors in the field are welcome to submit additional manuscripts without invitation.

Guest editors:
Dr. Josef Maroušek
(Lead Guest editor) is a team leader at the Institute of Technology and Business in České Budějovice (Czech Republic). Given the background in agriculture, biotechnology and business, most of activities concern commercialization and economic optimization of environmental technologies. In addition, Josef is inventor of dozens of patents, he is providing forensic expertise in environmental engineering; project coordination; valuation of intellectual property; advising services and the like. Dr. Gopalakrishnan Kumar serves as associate professor in University of Stavanger, Norway. His major research interests include biofuel/biochemical production from lignocellulose/waste/wastewater and algal biomass via biorefinery and valorization schemes and microbial fuel/electrolysis cell technologies. Additionally, he is working on the application of green synthesized activated carbon and nano particles for various environmental remediation applications. (gopalakrishnanchml@gmail.com)

Dr. Grzegorz Piechota runs his own Laboratory - GPCHEM Laboratory of Biogas Research and Analysis (Poland). Although he is predominantly an entrepreneur in industry (analysis and purification of biogas), he is a leading scientist in the field of biogas upgrading to biomethane, and biohydrogen in sustainable renewable energy development.
