Springer offers an open access program called Open Choice (www.springer.com/openchoice).
For the majority of our subscription-based journals, Open Choice allows authors to decide how their articles are published. If you choose open access, your article will be immediately and permanently made freely available online for anyone worldwide.
This is the easiest way to comply with open access mandates, as your article will be published under a Creative Commons license, which supports free distribution and re-use of the final publisher’s version (note license details). In addition, you as the author retain the copyright to your work. Also, an automatic export is triggered to PubMed Central/Europe PubMed Central (PMC) if this journal is listed on the “PMC Journal List”.
