In Band 2 des Buches zeigen die Autoren, dass sich mathematikdidaktische Texte, etwa rein umgangssprachlich gefasste Unterrichtskonzeptionen, formal rekonstruieren lassen. Ferner thematisieren sie die historische Entwicklung mathematischer Theorien. Die Behandlung der Texte verfolgt das Ziel, mathematikdidaktisches Wissen möglichst präzise zu erfassen. Der Beitrag zur Entwicklung mathematischer Theorien greift auf deren geschichtliche Wurzeln zurück. Diese werden mit Bezug auf das strukturalistische Theorienkonzept als empirische Theorien rekonstruiert, um sie in Beziehung zur unterrichtlichen Behandlung dieser Gebiete zu setzen und zu vertiefen.
