About this book

This book covers different aspects of gas injection, from the classic pressure maintenance operation to enhanced oil recovery (EOR), underground gas storage (UGS), and carbon capture and storage (CCS). The authors detail the unique characteristics and specific criteria of each application, including:

  • material balance equations
  • phase behaviour
  • reservoir engineering
  • well design
  • operating aspects
  • surface facilities
  • environmental issues

Examples, data, and simulation codes are provided to enable the reader to gain an in-depth understanding of these applications.

Fundamentals and Practical Aspects of Gas Injection will be of use to practising engineers in the fields of reservoir engineering, and enhanced oil recovery. It will also be of interest to researchers, academics, and graduate students working in the field of petroleum engineering.

About the editors

Professor Reza Azin is the chair of Oil and Gas Research Center (OGRC) at Persian Gulf University, Bushehr, Iran. He earned a BSc and an MSc in Chemical Engineering and received a PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Iran. His areas of expertise include Oil/Gas Reservoir Engineering, PVT and Phase Behaviour of Reservoir Fluids, Carbon Capture and Sequestration, Surface and Chemical Process Equipment Facilities, and Energy. Prof. Azin received the Distinguished Researcher Award at Persian Gulf University in 2016 and 2020. He has more than 22 years of academic research and consulting experience in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sector, has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers and given more than 50 conference presentations. Prof. Azin has been involved in innovation, start-up mentoring and patenting novel solutions in the oil and gas industry with an interdisciplinary approach since 2010.

Mr. Amin Izadpanahi earned his M.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering in the field of Reservoir Engineering from Persian Gulf University in 2019. His research mainly concentrates on reservoir simulation and field development plan. He has worked on the concept of mass transfer during gas injection into gas condensate reservoirs. Non-Darcy Flow Regimes, Improved Oil Recovery (IOR), Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Application of Machine Learning Methods in Oil and gas Industry, and Flow Assurance Issues (including Asphaltene Precipitation) are his main research interests. He has published several articles on reservoir simulation and has carried out experimental studies on EOR subjects.
