About the authors


RON BAXTER graduated from the London School of Economics in 1960. After a period with the International Nickel Co. and Hoover Ltd., he was an economic advisor to the Electricity Council and subsequently to the National Ports Council, a government body responsible for advising the UK Department of Transport on the development of the UK ports and harbours' industry. Ron was subsequently promoted to Chief Economist and then to Director of Economics and Statistics. In the 1980s, he set up his own Economic Consultancy, Baxter Eadie Ltd, offering specialist advice on the development of ports and harbours and shipping trends world wide for such clients as the World Bank and the European Commission as well as more general advice to private clients. He is the author of Ports and Inland Waterways, co-author of Readings in Economics and co-author, with Graham Bannock, of the Penguin Dictionary of Economics. 
  
GRAHAM BANNOCK is a graduate in Economics from the London School of Economics, UK. In the early 1960s he spent two years at the OECD in Paris. Subsequently Bannock pursued a new career in economic and business consultancy, including Managing Directorship of the Economist Intelligence Unit. He founded Bannock Consulting in 1985 which grew to have 60 employees. Since retiring from his own firm in 2003 he has continued to work on his writing and as an independent consultant, primarily on small business, taxation and regulatory issues in developing countries. From 1989 until 2007 he was Executive Director of Central Banking Publications Ltd. At present Graham is a  Visiting Professor at Westminster University, UK, a Trustee of the Small Enterprise Research Team, an educational charity, and is a member of the Academic Council of the Institute of Economic Affairs. His latest book, The Economics and Management of Small Business: A Global Perspective was published by Routledge in 2005 and he has written or co-authored over twenty other books including the Penguin Dictionaries of Business, Finance and Economics.
