Grigore GOGU obtained his engineering degree in machine-tools for wood industry at University Transylvania Brasov (UTB), Romania, in 1976. After three years of gathered experience in industry, he was appointed as associate professor at UTB, where he obtained a first PhD degree in dynamics of machine-tools (1983) and a second PhD in robotics (1995). He became professor and head of the Department of Machine Elements, Mechanisms and Robotics at UTB. In 1996 he was appointed as professor at French Institute of Advanced Mechanics in Clermont-Ferrand, France. In October 2008 he was awarded a Doctor Honoris Causa of Politehnica University of Timisoara. He is actually professor of mechanisms and robotics and the director of the Mechanical Engineering Research Group, a joint research laboratory of Blaise Pascal University and French Institute of Advanced Mechanics in Clermont-Ferrand. He is a member of the Technical Committee of Robotics and Mechatronics of IFToMM, and member of the Advisory Board of the Robotics Research Group of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). Actual research topics are: robot kinematics and dynamics, structural synthesis, singularity analysis, parallel robots, kinematotropic mechanisms, spatial mechanisms with applications in high speed machining and car suspension mechanisms. He is the author of 7 books (published by Springer, Hèrmes and Ed. Tehnica), 21 book chapters (published by Springer and Kluwer Academic Publishers) about 300 scientific papers and 30 patents, protected in more than 100 countries, in the field of mechanisms and robot manipulators.
