Korean Society of Oceanography
The KSO founded in July 1966, is a professional organization incorporated to serve the members working in various fields of oceanography, physical-, geological-, chemical- and biological-oceanography, in Korea. The KSO established in order to contribute the elevation and replenishment of oceanological knowledge and the development and conservancy of the ocean resources and marine environment.

Major Activities

• Publication of the Society’s journal in Korean including abstract in English
• Organize conferences, symposiums, workshops, training courses, field works and technical cruises
• Undertake research projects and presents awards for distinguished professionals in oceanography field
• Recommendations on policies for the advancement of oceanography and marine environmental development
• Overall activities and programs contributing to the objectives of the Society including international exchange of information

Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) 

The Korean Society of Oceanography
Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute(KORDI), which has driven development of the marine sciences and technology of Korea for over 40 years since its establishment in 1973, will write its new history on July 1, 2012, with a new name of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology(KIOST).
KIOST will be the world’s best marine research organization based on the experience of transformed Korea, which had no presence in marine sciences but soon became a powerhouse of the world through KORDI's efforts.
KIOST will play a major role in realizing a dream of becoming a prosperous ocean nation through innovative and leading ocean research and development in fundamental and applied ocean science and technology.

Functions 

• To perform basic and applied research to promote the efficient use of coastal and ocean resources
• To undertake comprehensive surveys and studies of Korea's seas and open oceans
• To conduct scientific research in polar and tropical regions, especially in Antarctica and south Pacific
• To develop technologies related to the coastal & harbor engineering, ships & ocean engineering, and maritime safety
• To support and cooperate with other government agencies, universities and private industries towards the
• development of marine resources and the protection of the ocean environment
• To coordinate and participate in the international cooperation concerning oceanographic research projects.

    Ocean Science Journal is a scientific journal published quarterly(March, June, September, December) by the Korean Society of Oceanography(KSO) and Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology(KIOST). OSJ is international and interdisciplinary. Research articles, reviews and notes dealing with physical oceanography, biological oceanography/marine biology, chemical oceanography/marine chemistry, geological oceanography/marine geology, and marine pollution will be considered.

     OSJ aims to publish a very high quality scientific journal for researchers and other interested people throughout the world.
