About this book

This book gathers the proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Frontier Computing, held in Osaka, Japan on July 12–14, 2017, and provides comprehensive coverage of the latest advances and trends in information technology, science and engineering. It addresses a number of broad themes, including communication networks, business intelligence and knowledge management, web intelligence, and related fields that inspire the development of information technology. The respective contributions cover a wide range of topics: database and data mining, networking and communications, web and internet of things, embedded systems, soft computing, social network analysis, security and privacy, optical communication, and ubiquitous/pervasive computing. Many of the papers outline promising future research directions, and the book will benefit students, researchers and professionals alike. Further, it offers a useful reference guide for newcomers to the field.

About the editors

Dr. Jason C. Hung is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Technology, Overseas Chinese University, Taiwan, ROC. His research interests include Multimedia Computing and Networking, e-Learning, Web Service and Anticipatory Computing. Dr. Hung received his BS and MS degrees in Computer Science and Information Engineering from Tamkang University, Taiwan, ROC, in 1996 and 1998, respectively. He also received his PhD in Computer Science and Information Engineering from Tamkang University in 2001. Dr. Hung has published over 120 papers and book chapters, and has organized many international conferences. He is the founder of the International Conference on Frontier Computing. He has served as the Hon Treasurer and later as Vice Chair of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Taipei Local Network (IET Taipei LN). In April 2014, he was elected as a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET). Since June 2015, he has been Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Cognitive Performance Support.

Dr. Neil Y. Yen is an Associate Professor at the University of Aizu, Japan. He completed doctorates in Human Informatics at Waseda University, Japan, and in Engineering at Tamkang University, Taiwan, ROC in March and June 2012, respectively. Actively involved as an editor for journals and books, Dr. Yen’s primary research interests are in the scope of human-centered computing and big data.

Dr. Lin Hui is an Associate Professor at the Department of Innovation Information and Technology, Tamkang University, Taiwan, ROC. She received her BS degree in Mathematics from Tunghai University, Taiwan, ROC and her MS degree in Mathematics from Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan, ROC. In 1993, she received support from the National Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology to study at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. She received her PhD in Computer Science and Information Engineering from Tamkang University, Taiwan, ROC in 2006. She is currently an Editorial Board Member for the International Journal of Cognitive Performance Support, and previously served on the program committee of many international conferences, such as PAKDD/BigPMA, Umedia, and Frontier Computing.
