Carlo Gatti (1954) graduated in Chemistry and Theoretical Physical Chemistry from the University of Milan. Presently, he is Senior Scientist at the Institute of Molecular Sciences and Technologies http://www.istm.cnr.it/.
His research interests range from theoretical/computational chemistry, to analyses of charge/spin densities in vacuo and condensed phase within the so-called Quantum Chemical Topology, to materials science. He contributed to develop software tools for the analysis of theoretically determined and experimentally detectable observables, like the electron density in condensed phases and to propose new chemical descriptors such as the Source Function, also based on a measurable observable.
During his research career he has had the privilege to collaborate with some of the most renowned scientists in both the fields of theoretical chemistry (R.F.W. Bader, C. Roetti, V. Saunders, B. Silvi, V.H. Smith, A.M. Pendás, and R. Ponec) and crystallography and materials science (P. Coppens, B.B Iversen, R. Destro, and A.R. Oganov).
He has been a member of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) Commission for Charge/Spin/Momentum Densities for several years and chair of such commission from 2008 to 2011. Since 2010 is one of the six international partners of the Centre for Materials Crystallography, hosted in Denmark, Aarhus University, http://cmc.chem.au.dk/.
