Dr Werner A. Müller awarded honorary membership of Germany’s operations research society GOR

‘The research community appreciates competent publishing services’

The German operations research society GOR awarded Dr Werner A. Müller honorary membership at its annual meeting at the beginning of September 2011 in Zurich. In his capacity as publishing director of Springer’s business and management publishing portfolio, Dr Müller has worked closely with GOR over a period of three decades. By steadily expanding its publishing segment at Springer (and Kluwer), the society has also attracted increasing international attention.
The GOR awarded Dr Müller honorary membership in recognition and appreciation of his work. His competence as a publisher and his many contacts in the operations research community played a key role in the society’s decision to have its research results published by Springer.
The company published a number of books by GOR members during Dr Müller’s time at Springer, many of which became bestsellers. He also supervised both the society’s journals for Springer, Operations Research Spectrum and Mathematical Methods of Operations Research. The former in particular has positioned itself very well in recent years and now ranks tenth in the relevant category of the International Science Index (ISI).
‘I am delighted to receive this award from the society. Honorary membership is not only a professional achievement for me, but also a very personal one. It demonstrates the good cooperation between the editors and board of GOR and the publishing company. It also shows that the research community appreciates good support from a publishing company’, said Werner A. Müller, who was most recently Executive Vice President at Springer.
