Starting 2014 the Journal für Betriebswirtschaft is published under a new title: Management Review Quarterly
Management Review Quarterly (MRQ) is a peer reviewed academic journal that specializes in publishing state-of-the-art reviews in all areas of business administration. Its main goal is to keep academics and practitioners up to date on the latest developments and insights in business based and related research. Review articles published in MRQ summarize and discuss published research in a field in an original way, point towards new directions with other disciplines, and identify open questions related to a chosen research topic.
MRQ was founded in 1951 at the Hochschule für Welthandel in Vienna, Austria (now WU Vienna University of Economics and Business) as a German language journal under the title "Journal für Betriebswirtschaft (JfB)". This makes MRQ/JfB one of the oldest research based business journals internationally.
Official citation from 2014 onwards: Manag Rev Q
Until 2013 officially cited as: J Betriebswirtsch

Journal - MRQ’s Positioning
Management Review Quarterly (MRQ) was founded in 1951 as "Journal für Betriebswirtschaft (JfB)" at the Hochschule für Welthandel in Vienna, Austria. Internationally, this makes it one of the oldest and most traditional scientific journals in the field of business administration.
Since its repositioning in 2005, the journal publishes exclusively innovative and scientifically sophisticated state-of-the-art reviews on major business and management-related research fields. Its main goal is to keep interested researchers up to date on the status and development of research in business administration.
MRQ’s articles highlight recent developments, point out new interconnections, and identify open research questions. The journal’s objective is to be a source of reference information on the current state of international research.
State-of-the-art Contributions
Articles focus on specific, clearly defined topics summarizing the current state of international research, while pointing out possible future development trends. The journal selects those contributions and insights that − according to the author(s) − decisively and sustainably shape their respective fields of research. In addition to identifying key findings, author(s) introduce essential but unresolved issues that require further attention, contributing significantly to scientific progress. Depending on the issues at hand, published summaries are either narrative or quantitative (meta-analyses).
Scientific Contribution
The journal’s contribution to research consists of numerous individual perspectives coming together to form an overall picture. As a result, previously unrecognized connections and complementary aspects can be identified, leading to increased transparency. Underlying research questions are emphasized and open questions precisely defined, meaning that articles in the Management Review Quarterly go far beyond mere literature reviews.
Style Guide
Clear and understandable writing is of the utmost importance. The focus should not be on technical details but rather on the main ideas and research results in a current field. Scientific findings, however, should not be trivialized. Your article should be academically rigorous in the sense that statements upon which assumptions are based are presented in a straightforward and coherent manner. Value judgments must be identified as such, and imprecise formulations avoided.
If and where necessary, the author(s) may add descriptions of the theoretical models and empirical methods used. A reader should be able to understand clearly what methods the author(s) used to obtain the findings presented in the paper. Formal language alone, however, is no substitute for clearly stated, understandable explanations.
Topics
Topics can be selected from all branches of business administration, both from established research areas or rapidly developing ones. "Business administration" can be broadly interpreted and may include theories, empirical phenomena, and methods, but topics should be narrow enough to allow an in-depth investigation. This means that rather than typically broad issues like "value-based management," "management of innovations", or "multivariate analysis methods", authors should focus on more specific topics such as "empirical findings on the suitability of implementing value-based incentive schemes", "open source software", or "construct formation using formative indicators".
Generally speaking, we are looking for topics that are currently the subject of international discourse. Their respective scientific relevance must be justified by the author(s). Topics focusing solely on terminology discussions or matters of classification should be avoided.
Readers
Management Review Quarterly’s readers are (1) economists looking to stay up-to-date on various fields of international business research, (2) experts in particular fields of research, and (3) interested members of the business community.
Quality
All scientific papers are subject to international standards and a double-blind peer-review process, involving experts in the respective field. Contributions are reviewed thoroughly and constructively. The journal’s quality is guaranteed by the Scientific Advisory Board, made up of leading international economists.
All papers are reviewed and examined according to the Guidelines for Reviewers, so authors are recommended to consider these guidelines before submission.
