ABME Outstanding Paper Awards
Editorial from the Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Larry McIntire. The Annals of Biomedical Engineering has grown greatly in stature over the last several years. We now publish over 2000 pages per year, representing approximately 180 articles, and plan to grow to 2400 pages in two years. Our acceptance rate for submitted manuscripts is less than 40%. In recognition of this increasing excellence, our Publisher Springer has agreed to provide funds for two yearly awards to honor our authors. They are: Outstanding Original Paper and Outstanding Review Paper. The Outstanding Original Paper Award will consist of a plaque and a check for $1500. The Outstanding Review Paper Award will include a plaque and a check for $1,000. Initial funds have been provided to honor authors in 2005 and 2006. To do the initial selections, we have compared full text download information for all manuscripts in these two years, using the same time period of six months after publication for each article. The top five articles in each category were then sent to the ABME Associate Editors for ranking. The individual rankings were then tabulated to determine the winners. ***** 2005 winners ***** Outstanding Original Paper - $1500 - Tissue Engineering of Human Heart Valve Leaflets: A Novel Bioreactor for a Strain-Based Conditioning Approach Mol, A., Niels J.B.
