Genetic Counseling: Technology in Practice

Guest Editors: Meg Doerr and Vickie Venne

The Journal of Genetic Counseling will devote a future special issue to exploring the use of technology in the practice of genetic counseling. We are inviting submissions focusing on the use of technology:
  • To deliver genetic counseling services (e.g., telehealth)
  • In clinical genetic counseling practice (e.g., self-guided electronic patient educational materials; family history collection tools; risk assessment tools; apps, online or kiosk-based tools)
  • To reach out to or connect with patients, families, and/or clinicians (e.g., social media, blogs)
  • For professional education or outreach (e.g., electronic screening tools for generalist settings, educational materials, delivery of genetic counseling training or supervision)
Please note that this special issue will not focus on the use of technology related to basic genetic science (e.g., curating variants).

We invite:

  • Original implementation or outcomes research using a quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method approach to addressing any of the above topics.
  • Papers addressing the ethical, legal, and/or social implications of the use of technology in practice.
  • Brief reports will also be considered.
  • In addition, substantive submissions that explore lessons learned or collaborations will be considered.

Manuscripts deadline is July 1, 2017

Submit manuscripts electronically via the JOGC website. Please indicate that your submission is to be considered for the special issue using the dropdown menu. Please feel free to contact Meg Doerr (megan.doerr@sagebase.org) or Vickie Venne (Vickie.venne@va.gov) if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Meg Doerr and Vickie Venne, Guest Editors
