Springer announced that it has launched a campaign in conjunction with International Women’s Day
, to be celebrated on March 8, to honor women in science and encourage young women to join the scientific community as researchers.
“Inspiring Change” is this year’s United Nation’s theme for International Women’s Day, which “celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action.” It is in the spirit of this mission that Springer is showcasing interviews with its women editors-in-chief, as well as offering a wide range of free content.
The campaign features insightful conversations with more than 40 women editors-in-chief regarding their fields of work and the journals they spearhead. Questions uncover the motivation behind the editors’ own careers, reflect on the mentors and pioneers that inspired and continue to inspire them, and spotlight new content and developments regarding their journals.
Alongside these interviews Springer is highlighting important content from the journals managed by each participating editor-in-chief. Readers are invited to freely download recent issues, and access the most viewed research from those journals which are open access. Additional free access offerings include hand-picked articles that are particularly relevant to the notion of women in science, and both articles and book chapters written by, and about, women Nobel Prize winners. The disciplines included in the campaign range from fields as diverse as clinical medicine, life and environmental sciences, and social sciences. This content will remain open to the public until 8 April 2014.
