Springer’s open access program, SpringerOpen
, has launched the International Journal of Food Contamination
to examine incidents of food contamination around the world. The journal will begin publishing this year, and all full text articles will be accessible via SpringerLink
, Springer’s online platform.
The International Journal of Food Contamination
will seek to explore emerging and existing hazards to the safety of food, and their raw materials, for both human and animal consumption. Bacterial pathogens and bacterial toxins, viruses, contaminants from food-contact materials and residues of pesticides and veterinary drugs, among others, are all part of the scope of the journal. And moreover, because the journal is open access, researchers, producers, governments and other decision makers will have immediate access to this important scientific data. Andreja N. Rajkovic, Ph.D., of Ghent University is the founding Editor-in-Chief.
Commentary, database information, editorials, data articles , short reports and reviews will all be a part of the International Journal of Food Contamination
. These articles will give scientists worldwide a resource to reference for the purposes of risk analysis, to review and evaluate the sampling schemes used by food authorities and food producers, and to follow and model global food-contamination patterns, among others.
“Much of the important information in this field is unavailable to the public because it is published in obscure journals, or not published at all. The International Journal of Food Contamination
aims to counter this by becoming the go-to journal for genuine contamination data,” said Dr. Rajkovic. “In order to become an essential resource for information on food safety we needed a strong and established publishing partner with an extended international network and recognized excellence. This is precisely what we found in Springer. Together we will unite efforts to bring out scientifically sound and reliable data on food contamination.”
