On 1 May 2008, Dr. Alexander Grossman will join Springer Science+Business Media as Managing Director of Springer-Verlag GmbH in Vienna, which groups Springer’s scientific publishing activities in Austria. He succeeds Dr. Sven Fund, who left Springer at the end of March.
Grossmann, who studied Law and Physics at the universities of Bochum and Aachen (Germany), obtained his PhD in Physics in 1996. During his academic career, he focussed on quantum optics, laser physics, solid-state physics, sensor technology and physical chemistry. In parallel, Grossmann built up a small publishing business for teaching materials in physics and medicine.
In May 2001, he became head of the Wiley-VCH office in Berlin, followed by Business Development Director at Wiley International and Editorial Director for Physics, Material Sciences and Mathematics at Wiley-VCH. Since 2003, Alexander has been member of the management team at Wiley-VCH and since May 2007 he has been Publishing Director Global Physics at Wiley-Blackwell.
“We are pleased that Alexander is joining Springer, and we are very much looking forward to working with him,” said Andreas Koesters, Springer’s President Asia / Local Americas & Europe / Pharma.
