The role: 

You will ensure the success of a set of international journals by using your knowledge of the field and by working with academic Editors to identify and deliver development opportunities. Excellent communication skills and strong relationships are key to the role. Key tasks  

The successful candidate will:

• Build knowledge of the field and the communities that the journals serve, to seek out development opportunities, translating them into actions to maintain a competitive advantage. This will involve engaging with senior scientists and obtaining their advice.
• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with academic Editors, Editorial Boards, society executives and other key organisations in the field, with the aim of building BioMed Central’s reputation and attracting submissions.
• Support the management of the journals, for example responding to Editor enquiries and handling contract renewals
• Ensure journals are promoted through all relevant avenues including representing the company at scientific conferences when required
• Work to launch new journals where relevant
• Liaise with other internal departments to plan and implement tasks
• Assist the Journal Development Manager by conducting reports, analysis, etc.

Person specification 

• Educated to degree level or equivalent, preferably in life sciences or medicine. Further experience of the research environment is desirable.
• Excellent communication and quick learning skills
• Strong organizational skills, and attention to detail
• A positive, can-do approach to problem-solving in both daily tasks and more complex troubleshooting
• An active interest in academic publishing
• Preferably experience of presenting information to and conducting discussions with senior academics and representatives of organizations (e.g. learned societies, libraries)
• Willing to travel and represent BioMed Central at external events
• Experience of working in an international environment is a plus
