About this book

This book presents a model of the leadership process that identifies which factors create an effective leader at different points in the organisation's lifecycle and which forces act as moderators to that effectiveness. The dimension of how the dynamics of leadership play out over time is what distinguishes this work from previous books on leadership.

Reviews

'Given the complexities of modern business, leaders have no alternative but to delegate responsibility down through the organization. Thus developing leaders at all levels of the organization is the most critical challenge top leaders face today. In The Leadership Lifecycle, Andrew Ward addresses this critical issue through a fine balance of theory and practice, expounding a leadership model that resonated at both the individual and corporate level and which is brought to life through vivid case studies.' - John Hancock, Chairman, MFI Furniture Group

'Andrew Ward's The Leadership Lifecycle is a must read for those who would avoid the twin viruses of arrogance and complacency that are embedded in every successful organization.' - Donald R. Keough, Chairman, Allen & Company

'The Leadership Lifecycle reminds us that good strategic fit is everything, but also ever changing: A leader's approach must match the company's challenges, and those challenges are always evolving. With richly crafted accounts of companies from Apple and Palm to Coca-Cola and Disney, Andrew Ward provides a compelling framework for finding the right leadership style that your enterprise needs now.' - Michael Useem, Professor of Management and Director of the Center for Leadership and Change, The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania

'Andrew Ward offers a superb exploration through the landscape of varied leadership adventures, showing the reader how to equip themselves for the challenges of mastering each. This book offers a rich connection between the strategic and personal sides of leadership in exciting salient settings.' - Professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, Associate Dean, Yale School of Management, and President & CEO, The Chief Executive Leadership Institute

'Excellent case vignettes of companies...illustrate the importance of matching leadership style to the organization's lifestage.' - R. Subramanian, Choice
