This book discusses the recent developments in the therapeutic implications of cancer stem cells for the effective diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of cancer.

It summarizes the various stem cells of common cancers including colon, pancreas, lungs, prostate, melanoma, and glioblastoma, and reviews the potential role of cancer stem cells in tissue aggressiveness, examining the functional contribution of cancer stem cells in the establishment and recurrence of cancerous tumors. Further, it explores the potential of cancer stem cells as novel therapeutic targets for the treatment and prevention of tumor progression.

The book also discusses the various approaches for detecting, isolating, and characterizing different cancer stem cells and signaling pathways that control their replication, survival, and differentiation. About the editors

Dr. Surajit Pathak is currently working as a Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Kelambakkam, Chennai. He has received his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Kalyani, West Bengal, India in 2007, and completed his post-doctoral training at the University of Linkoping, Sweden; University of Padova, Italy; and the University of Alabama, USA.

His current research focuses on cancer biology, stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and microRNA. He has published more than 60 research articles in peer-reviewed journals with 1270 citations. He received various research grants including core research grants from SERB (DST), and DST Indo-Italy Bi-lateral research projects.

He is an editorial board member of various respected journals including, Endocrine, Metabolic & Immune Disorders - Drug Targets.

Dr. Antara Banerjee is currently working as an Associate Professor at Chettinad Academy of Research and Education, Kelambakkam, Chennai. Antara Banerjee completed her PhD in the year 2008 and pursued her post-doctoral research at the University of Padova, Italy till 2012. Later she joined as Senior Research Associate at the University of Linkoping, Sweden till 2015. She has published over 53 impact peer-reviewed articles in International and National Journals with Citation index of 660. Her core expertise is in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine and oncology. She has been awarded DST SERB, ECR award, Government of India for a period of 2018-2021 for the project on Umbilical cord Derived Mesenchymal stem cells in modulating Colon cancer.
