About this book

This book covers the fundamentals of different laser-based manufacturing and processing, namely laser shock peening, laser micromachining, laser cleaning, cladding, remelting, laser honing, and other several aspects of lasers. The book discusses the general laser interaction with different materials. The application of laser-based post-processing of additive manufacturing and repair engineering is reported. It also provides the reader with mechanism of lasers in manufacturing and recent developments in tools, technologies, controls, and operations.

About the editors

R. Jagdheesh got his M.Sc. (1998) in electronics and Ph.D. (2005) in laser material processing from Bharathidasan University, India. He held several research positions at Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technologies (RRCAT), École nationale supérieure de mécanique et d'aérotechnique (ENSMA), University of Twente, University of New South Wales,  and Institute of Physics, Czech academy of science, Madrid. He is currently Senior Researcher at UPM Laser Centre, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid,  Madrid, Spain. His research interest includes laser cladding, laser welding, laser micromachining, laser-induced shock waves, and ultrafast laser processed functional surfaces.

Sunil Pathak got his Ph.D. (2016) in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Indore (MP) India. He is currently Senior Researcher at HiLASE Centre, Institute of Physics, Prague. He is specialized in gear engineering and advanced/hybrid manufacturing processes. He has expertise on advanced finishing of gears, gear metrology (micro- and macro-geometry), and measurement of gear accuracy. Currently he works on laser shock peening of intricate shaped geometries and machining of difficult-to-machine materials using advanced machining processes such as EDM and WEDM. He also has interest on profile modification of spur gears by electrochemical finishing process.
